Dell Inspiron 1525 Review

Dell Inspiron 1525 is a huge improvement on its predecessor Inspiron 1520.

15” Inspiron 1525 is about 25% smaller than the 1520 model. It’s about 30% slimmer and nearly half a pound less in weight than the previous Inspiron model.

While buying Inspiron 1525 you have the option of choosing across eight colors and four new patterns. The glossy finish looks good but might make finger prints very conspicuous.

There are three display options with Dell Inspiron 1525. They are

  • Widescreen XGA with resolution of 1280 X 800
  • Widescreen XGA with resolution of 1280 X 800 and true life
  • High resolution screen with resolution of 1440 X 900

The 15.4” screens have good viewing angles from left to right. The vertical viewing angle is good when you look from the top. However the bottom viewing angles are not as good as the rest of them.

The keyboard in Dell Inspiron 1525 is firm and there is no noticeable flex. The well cushioned keys have a nice travel and feel good to the fingers. The palm rest and the touch pad are more or less integrated at the surface. You won’t feel the difference between the two surfaces but for the indented touchpad buttons. The touchpad has a textured surface. It’s very responsive and the buttons have good cushion. One good thing you find with Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop is that there are a number of LED lit media buttons at the top of the keyboard.

Taking the size and weight of Inspiron 1525 into consideration, the number of ports is something that the average laptop user will not complain about. This machine comes packed with Fire Wire, USB Ports (4 in number), Microphone jack, Ethernet Port, Media Card Reader, Express Card Slot, Head Phone Jacks (2 in number) and an HDMI output slot.

Now let’s talk about the audio quality of an inspiron 1525 laptop. This laptop is no exception to the regular audio quality that you can associate with laptops. The sound is feeble from the built in speakers and is just not enough to give you the kick while listening to the latest hits. The sound quality through a headphone is much better.

Dell Inspiron 1525 is targeted at the main stream users with average performance needs. Having said that, it’s safe to place the fact right in front of you that the machine is well placed to serve the needs for which it’s made.

You will not find any dedicated graphics card to help you with your high end 3-D gaming requirements but then Dell Inspiron 1525 was never made for that purpose. The built in graphics functionalities serve the average use pretty nicely.

Heat is not at all a problem with an Inspiron 1525. The heat sink and the fan go about their work nicely, ensuring that the temperature level stays within acceptable limits. However the laptop is noisy when the fan is at full speed. It might be a bit embarrassing to use this laptop in the class room or in a board meeting.

For any laptop its portability is not only a function of its size, but also depends upon its usability when the user is on the move. Thus the prowess of the mobile laptop lies in its efficiency in using the battery power. This is where Dell Inspiron 1520 scores a home run.

The laptop runs for about 2 hours and 53 minutes with a standard 6-Cell Lithium Ion battery, under extreme conditions. With power saver options in action you can expect the battery life to increase quite a bit. You may opt for a 9-Cell battery if you feel that will be required for your mobile needs, but then remember that is going to add to the weight you will be moving around with.

Dell Inspiron 1525 is a very good notebook for the budget conscious buyers. It has enough power to cater to the common man’s everyday computing needs. This certainly is not the laptop for high end gamers but will be good enough for your basic computing needs and a little more.
