Lenovo T43

As the name behind the modern IBM ThinkPad, Lenovo T43 presents a fine example of a modern computing device that can provide just about everything that corporate customers could ask for.

While it is built to deliver gigabit ethernet and dedicated graphics capabilities, it allows limited expansion, has a small hard drive and does not originally come with a DVD burner. However, it carries what is standard among all Lenovo laptops, style, durability and performance that meet value.

Lenovo had not made much change on the boxy design and 6.4-pound built of the old IBM ThinkPad, although the new ThinkPad boasts a lighter 4.9-pound body with a 14.1-inch XGA LCD and ATI Mobility 7500 graphics with a 32MB memory and 24x CD-R or DVD combo drive.

The brand has improved the functionality and sensitivity of the model’s pointing devices such as the touchpad and ‘pointing stick’. Also, the new Lenovo T43 has dark gray function keys with white and light blue lettering to set them apart from other keyboard keys, which everyone agrees as a nice improvement to the model.

It has a modular bay located at its right side, which is designed to accommodate an optical drive, a second battery or a second hard drive. Its solidly crafted pop-out yet built-in tab design allows any of the connected devices to be removed by one hand.

The USB 2.0 slots as well as the connectivity and card slots, such as the ExpressCard slot and the PC card slot, of the new Lenovo T43 are mostly located at its left side. However, the unit may be lacking FireWire port, which happens to be a ubiquitous laptop connection.

One of the best features of the new T43 is that it is sporting a 14.1-inch high-resolution display of 1400 by 1050 pixel which sits atop its ThinkLight LED features, a function key activated feature that is especially useful when typing using the laptop in the dark. Its LCD display delivers above-average graphics with its dedicated ATI Mobility 7500 graphics processor.

When it comes to the audio capabilities, it was never expected of an IBM ThinkPad model to have a superior audio system. However, the new Lenovo T43 defies expectations by sporting speakers on the beveled front which happens to be good enough for informal presentations.

Its volume controls can conveniently be controlled by a nice set of press-and-hold buttons located at the top of the keyboard.

The RAM upgrades on the new T43 are relatively straightforward. This model has made RAM access fairly easy, placing RAM slots under the keyboard.

It runs on a standard 6-cell battery, which can last up to 5 hours of normal computing applications. It comes powered by a Pentium M 725 (1.6GHz) processor, which allows its systems to have very strong battery life that allows all programs to run quickly. These operating features are complemented with 256MB of PC2700 DDR memory and a 40 GB at 5,400 rpm hard drive memory and a v.92 56 Kbps modem, gigabit Ethernet and 802.11b/g wireless internet capabilities.

Lenovo T43 makes a wise investment for people who do corporate or business computing applications. Overall, this slim back corporate laptop has earned a WorldBench 5 score of 84. It may not be on top of the charts but it still spells excellence in corporate customer’s standards for value and performance.
